About Us
It all began in October 2005 when my sister Kim and her partner Vickie purchased a small ice cream parlor on the island of Siesta Key in SARASOTA FLORIDA. Kim had a full time job so I offered to help out for a little while (haha!). To help boost sales we started baking with spelt as I felt it was a healthier grain. In February 2006, Mrs. Stella Peters, who was visiting the Key from the north, came in and said the baked goods smelled lovely but she couldn't have any because she had just found out she has Celiac Disease. She asked if we could make something for her. Research led to experimenting and then committing to become an EXCLUSIVELY GLUTEN-FREE BAKERY!
Visitors from around the world came. All of them so excited-they had never seen a gluten-free bakery!! Many of them took pictures of our tiny sign in the window!
Our products have been proclaimed, by our customers, (see our testimonials page) as the best they have ever had. Visitors to Siesta Key from around the USA, Canada and Europe continually state, "I can't believe this is gluten-free, it tastes too good!"
Fate played a huge roll in our lives the day the ice cream parlor was purchased. Stella coming into our lives brought a new source of income and opened my eyes to my wheat intolerance!
After dipping ice cream and baking for 4 years-7 days a week with some long tiring days- Kim and Vickie attempted to sell the ice cream parlor. After finally giving up a man walked into the parlor in November 2009 and asked if they would be interested in selling the parlor! In December 2009, the ice cream parlor sold!
We are now at a new location just off Siesta Key. One block west of Tamiami Trail on Stickney Point Rd-in the South Bridge Plaza by Stonewood Grill and New Balance shoe store.
Although we bake from scratch daily, we highly recommend you call ahead to place an order. Please see the "ordering/shipping" page of our website for additional information.
